The Guest house designed by Osetskaya.Salov architectural bureau is located in Pereslavl-Zalessky in Yaroslavl Region of Russia. This is a historical town founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152 as the future capital of North-Eastern Russia. At the same time, the site of the house is located in the modern part of the city, at a territorial distance from the centers of history; relying on the significance of the place it forms a new cultural context.
The project is embodied in the concept of immersive architecture: the whole environment here is formed in such a way as to involve the visitor in interaction with the internal cultural code and induce in him the need to formulate his own relationship to what he has seen and experienced.
The guest house is an ensemble of structures consisting of a two-storey main building, a free-standing bathhouse and a landscaped surrounding area. The starting point of the creative concept was the semantic structure, which implies the creation of five apartments different in character and aesthetic content, referring to different cultures: Slavic, African, Hindu, European and Latin American. The public spaces represent a synthesis of these cultural forms, and the architectural shell of the building becomes the starting point for the development of the House's own cultural identity.
The context of cultural codes is conveyed by working with forms, the architectural balance of spaces, color and the artisanal nature of materials. By creating vaulted ceilings or by setting simple and straight lines, working with height and plasticity, the positioning of windows and the geometry of walls, a specific, meaningful configuration of each room was formed.
Each private space is organized differently, but like everything in the project, they are equally proportionate to the person. There is no excessive area, but at the same time they are saturated with all the necessary functions: sleeping and working areas, places for storage, kitchen and household blocks.
The main part of the adjacent territory is occupied by complex multi-level landscaping, among which there is a system of walking paths. The fence is part of the architectural plan of the territory, and each of its sections is dedicated to one of the five cultures.
A large open staircase leads visitors from the street directly to the roof of the building, which offers a panoramic view of the city with its white stone walls, golden domes, roofs and historical sites, and Pleshcheyevo Lake in the distance.
Bricks, stone and wood with distinct traces of manual labor were used for implementation. This approach does not argue with the technological nature of the modern house, but only creates a certain mood and atmosphere in it.
All spaces of the Guest house are clearly structured and arranged in a special proportion in relation to each other. Public spaces dominate in relation to private ones. And the basis of this balance is the human scale, in which each space is proportionate and significant.
