ABOUT
As one of the most iconic hotels along Barbados’s coveted Platinum Coast, Colony Club is a destination defined by timeless elegance and storied heritage. Originally conceived as an exclusive private club in the 1940s, the property has long embodied a classic Caribbean sensibility – one rooted in gracious hospitality, understated sophistication and a deep connection to place. Today, Colony Club is reintroduced as a reimagined luxury retreat that honors its legacy while evolving for a new generation of global travelers. ROAM Interior Design led the renovation with a thoughtful approach that preserves the spirit of the original club while translating it through a contemporary lens.
The design vision sought to balance the polish and intimacy of the hotel’s past with a renewed sense of openness and inclusivity under Marriott’s Luxury Collection portfolio. ROAM approached the project with a clear intent: to create a modern clubhouse that feels welcoming rather than exclusive, refined yet relaxed. Through our design strategy, the hotel has been transformed into a social hub that encourages connection, conversation and a shared appreciation for timeless design.
Throughout the property, interiors reflect a dialogue between heritage and modernity. The classical architectural style is paired with new furnishings that reflect historical reference but with modern interpretation and materiality to create spaces that feel both familiar and fresh. A palette of ocean-inspired tones with coastal neutrals and tropical accents, complemented by the use of coral stone, natural fibers and brass reinforce a sense of ease while maintaining a polished aesthetic. This balance of comfort and elegance reflects the expectations of today’s guests while maintaining the polished luxurious aesthetic of the property’s original roots. The influence of Bajan heritage informs the balance of elegance and leisure found throughout the hotel.
Set within lush tropical gardens and winding lagoon-style pools, the guest experience unfolds as a journey shaped by landscape and climate. Verandas, lounges and gathering spaces are designed to blur the boundary between indoors and out, responding to Barbados’s light, breeze and rhythms of daily life. ROAM emphasized that open concept, allowing the architecture and interiors to feel inseparable from their surroundings.
The result is a renewed Colony Club – one that respects its historic identity while offering a contemporary expression of Caribbean luxury. Rooted in tradition yet forward-looking, the hotel stands as a modern classic: a welcoming clubhouse for today’s traveler, and a destination designed to endure.
