ABOUT
The hotel is located in Jinshan District, the southwest gateway of Shanghai. It is surrounded by the natural landscape of Zhujing Donglin Temple, Fengjing Ancient Town and Langxia Ecological Park, and adjacent to the highly anticipated LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort. By integrating Eastern and Western cultural elements into the whole process of development and design, and by creating a golden combination of "paradise + commercial street + hotel", it is committed to enhancing the infinite and colorful immersive experience, and promoting the resort to become a new landmark for leisure and tourism in the Yangtze River Delta.
Based on the local site attributes, project positioning and design vision, it takes the open gateway & communication hub as the main design concept, draws inspiration from the humanistic flavor, cultural charm, natural features, ancient masonry, and other art forms of the thousand-year-old town, and reinterprets local whitewashed walls and tiles of architectural vernaculars with innovative materials and technological interactive features, thus achieving a dialogue between inside and outside the gateway, as well as a connection between the past, present and future.
The overall design concept is "Inside and Outside the Getaway", which connects the leisure and comfort of the Jiangnan water town with the prosperity of the international metropolis. And using modern deconstruction and reconstruction techniques, local elements, such as red bricks, water networks, and granaries are reinterpreted through modern design and environmentally friendly materials, leading guests to deeply experience the culture and flavor of Jinshan.
The overall soft outfit design is inspired by the intricate network of waterways, the meandering and flowing form and the shimmering surface of the river, which are transformed and evolved into lamps, artworks, and the textures on furniture materials. It also explores local folk customs, including traditional Chinese paintings, peasant paintings and Go, and re-presents them with modern technology.
Organic agriculture is a key local agricultural industry, and the design team combined Fengjing’s characteristic peasant paintings and the prosperous scene of harvest to create a getaway of the future. Using the process of harvesting, transportation, storage, eating as a source of inspiration, the natural texture is introduced into the interior to create the bustling life of the Jiangnan water town. Meanwhile the upward growth of plants is simulated into the space. It blends natural materials with modern techniques, colliding the past and the future, interweaving tradition and modernity, constantly innovating in this inclusive city, and promoting the continuous development of local characteristic agriculture, culture, and tourism.
