ABOUT
Located in the state of Johor, on the southeastern region of the Malaysian coast, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast is committed to building an environmentally sustainable resort. Since its opening in 2018, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast has led a plethora of green initiatives in support of one of Hard Rock’s founding Mottos, “Save The Planet”. The hotel has achieved remarkable success in reducing single-use plastic through various initiatives. Notably, they have eliminated the use of plastic water bottles by providing SS Flasks in all accommodation rooms and installing 26 water stations along guest corridors, resulting in the prevention of 8 million plastic bottles since 2018. Additionally, the hotel offers ready-to-drink filtered water in all 365 rooms and has replaced straws with Ada Straws made from broken rice and tapioca. Take-away items are now compostable, utilizing PLA (polylactic acid) derived from plant sugars. In each hotel suite bathroom, 500ml biodegradable pump bottles have replaced traditional bath amenities, while dental kits, shaving kits, and other dry bath amenities have been replaced with biodegradable materials. Wooden materials have replaced plastic for room key cards and beverage stirrers. The hotel has also phased out plastic laundry sleeves in favor of cloth coverings. Other sustainability initiatives include composting hotel waste, repurposing ground coffee for landscaping and as a body scrub at Rock Spa® and creating house-made fertilizers from fruit peel waste as an alternative to chemical fertilizers, effectively minimizing waste. Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast is actively working towards a better future by maintaining a list of ongoing sustainability initiatives and having commitment to green building initiatives, and recently achieving the LEED® Silver Award Certification by the U.S Green Building Council. The property makes sustainability a priority by ensuring their Team Members lead by example and fully embrace sustainability values while advocating to others.
